Kristin Lengowski

These are excerpts from the text of biographical notes printed at the time of her passing, one year ago today.

Dr. Kristin Lengowski was born in Dickinson on August 6, 1955. She was the daughter of Lillie E. Lengowski and the late Albert J. Lengowwski. She was educated at St. Patrick's Elementary and graduated from Trinity High School. At a young age she showed signs of a gifted intellect, but it was the richness of her spiritual life that led her to have a deep love and appreciation for God's Creation. This was manifested in her love of nature and her special tenderness for animals. She was also attracted to God's revelation and was very touched by the Word of God.

Dr. Lengowski discovered the Bahá’í Faith when she was 18 years old and understood it as a continuation of her Catholic faith. She believed that God works through people, therefore, people are very important; human relations are to be cherished and have a spiritual basis. She lived her life based on spiritual principles such as the unity of mankind, the harmony of science and religion, the equality of women and men, and the independent investigation of truth among other beautiful principles.

In college she majored in zoology and graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Dakota in 1977, with membership in Phi Beta Kappa. She attended medical school and graduated from Creighton University Medical School in 1981, achieving membership in Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, Nebraska Beta Chapter. She completed a residency in pathology and later in psychiatry, at the University of North Carolina. She did clinical research and wrote several publications, but it was the service to her fellow human beings that concerned her and became the center of her professional attention. She worked many years at Wake County Human Services, serving patients who were suffering from severe mental illness and/or were victims of abuse. She was highly respected by her co-workers.

Her family was her primary concern, especially in providing the spiritual education and character development of her four children, Sonya, Robert, David and Kara. She was very dedicated in all her endeavors and served in various administrative posts within the Bahá’í Faith. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Kristin died April 6, 2006, from brain cancer at the Duke Hospice Inpatient Care Facility at Meadowlands.

In dedication of this Children's Theatre to the memory of Kristin, her many friends offer their love and prayers to assist the progress of her loving and everlasting soul through all the worlds of God. We pray that good works done in her name in the service of children will shower the blessings of God on Kristin and her dear family.

We hope soon to provide you with some pictures of Kristin and her family.
